Ready, Set, Goal!

New year. New beginnings.

At the start of every year, we start to come up with a list of things we would want to achieve. Be it in academics, in sports or in our everyday routine, there are things that must be done and goals that must be reached. But some, if not most of the time, these goals are just left as ideas written on a piece of paper. You have a vision of what you want to achieve, but the process of achieving is missing.

In order to achieve success and to put the goals to good use, here are some steps that may help you build a map and pave the way to reaching your goals:

  1. Make sure that the goals you are working for are something you really want, not just something that sound good. When setting goals, it is very important that it be consistent with your values. It will be difficult for you to try to achieve something that you do not necessarily believe in. Don’t just settle for the usual goals that everyone else is also trying to achieve. Each one has a different set of dreams and principles. Reflect and think deeply of what it is that you would want to do for yourself and for the people around you.
  2. Construct your goals positively. Goals are something that you would work on for at least a year. You wouldn’t want to be reminded of the don’ts right? Work for what you want. One of the reasons why we write down and examine our goals is to create a set of instructions for our subconscious mind to carry out. The more positive instructions you give it, the more positive results you will get.
  3. Write your goals in complete detail. This allows you to give the subconscious mind a detailed set of instructions to work on. The more information you get, the clearer the final outcome becomes. The more precise the outcome, the more efficient the subconscious mind can become.
  4. Write down your goals. This creates the roadmap to your success. Just the act of writing down can start the process. This also gives you the chance to review them frequently. The more focused you are on your goals the more likely you are to accomplish them.

These are just some of the steps that you may take to become closer to your goal. Every time you make a decision during the day, ask yourself if it takes you closer or farther from the goal. Being closer to your goal also makes you one step closer to achieving success.
