A Curious Mind and A Passionate Heart

“Train up a child in the way he should go and when he is old, he will never depart from it.”

-Proverbs 22:6

With this guiding verse, I commit to the Lord that I will be the best mom for the children God has given me. Dasha, my first born child, talks vividly and speaks her mind. When she started going to school at the age of four, she already excelled in school, but not much in math. She had a classmate who was always perfect in math and was also very quick in solving math problems during exams. Dasha’s amazement of her classmate became our daily topic whenever she came home from school. One day, to my surprise, Dasha shared the secret of her classmate’s “brilliant math skills” – it was Kumon.

I did not waste time. I searched about Kumon and I immediately enrolled her in the Math Program. After enrolling her, she ranked first in school, and she was able to maintain this rank throughout her preschool and elementary years. Because of Kumon, she became more confident that she can make herself better with proper discipline through answering her worksheets daily.

After a few months, I enrolled Dasha in the Reading Program. Her passion and love for books grew deeper as she yearned to read more stories. She built her collection of books which influenced her younger brother to develop his love for reading too. Her book collection included Geronimo and Thea Stilton, Magic Tree House by Mary Pope Osborne, works by Roald Dahl, Ms. Peregrine, stories about Gods and Goddesses of Greek Mythology, and many more. When we travel abroad, she would always look for reading materials and the opportunity to read. After reading story excerpts in her worksheets which are from Kumon’s Recommended Reading List (RRL), Dasha would ask me to go to the bookstore and find the particular book where she read the excerpt.

Aside from Kumon and her love for reading, she plays the piano, is a consistent class or school officer, and assists me in our coffee shop. She joins me for my charity work, feeding programs, and gift-giving programs as well.

Dasha graduated from elementary school as class valedictorian. She is now a writer of Angeles City Science High School’s school newspaper. When she is not busy, she would paint and do calligraphy.

Kumon helped me develop the potential of my child to the maximum. With Kumon, I know that she will continue to become a productive citizen of our country.
