I decided to enroll my son, John Zedrick, first in the Kumon Reading Program when he was four years old to foster early development in reading and writing. I wanted the program to develop his critical thinking and problem-solving skills at an early age, and allow him to progress at a pace faster than other students his age. Eventually, we saw the positive impact of the Kumon Reading Program on him that’s why we decided to enroll him in the Kumon Math Program as well.

The Potential
I observed that at an early age, John Zedrick demonstrated the ability to read fluently and write neatly, as well as solve basic calculations. His math skills were further developed by Kumon and he was able to solve math worksheets using mental calculations. Enrolling him in Kumon has also contributed to the development of his independence in learning and improvement in study habits.
The Journey
Kumon contributed significantly to John Zedrick’s achievements in several ways. The self-paced structure of Kumon helped my child progress at a faster rate. His time in Kumon enhanced his academic capabilities and played a crucial role in preparing him to pass the Philippine Science High School National Competitive Exam (NCE) both for the Main and Calabarzon Campus.
We believe the program’s emphasis on early literacy and numeracy skills helped lay a strong foundation for John Zedrick’s academic success. The structured approach to learning allowed my child to progress at his own pace and master fundamental concepts. The emphasis on critical thinking and problem-solving skills has also been invaluable. John Zedrick not only excelled in solving math problems but also learned to approach challenges with a more analytical and independent mindset.

The Advice
To the parents who are considering enrolling their child in Kumon, here are some pieces of advice:
• Understand your child’s needs: Assess your child’s strengths and areas that need improvement. Kumon is known for its focus on math and reading, so if these are areas where your child needs support or wants to excel, it might be a good fit.
• Set realistic expectations: Recognize that progress in Kumon is gradual. It’s important to set realistic expectations and understand that the program is designed for long-term skill development rather than immediate results.
• Commit to consistency: Kumon relies on consistent practice. Ensure that your child is willing to commit to the recommended study schedule. Consistency is key to reaping the full benefits of the program.
• Communicate with Kumon Instructors: Stay in regular communication with your child’s Kumon Instructor. They can provide insights into your child’s progress, strengths, and areas for improvement. This partnership can enhance your child’s learning experience.
• Attend Parent Meetings: Take advantage of any parent meetings or orientations. These sessions can provide valuable insights into the program’s methodology and how you can best support your child.
• Create a supportive environment at home: Establish a quiet and organized study area at home. Minimize distractions during study times to help your child concentrate and make the most of their Kumon assignments.
• Be patient and supportive: Recognize that every child learns at their own pace. Be patient and supportive, offering assistance when needed. Avoid putting excessive pressure on your child, and focus on creating a positive and encouraging learning environment.
